Designed for the “ILLUMINATA” exhibition at Milan Design Week 2023, this piece served as a striking centerpiece at the altar of the Chiesa Cristiana Protestante church. This created not only a dramatic, enchanting effect that blended seamlessly with the sacred atmosphere of the church, but also symbolically united the work of Muslim weavers from Mazandaran, Iran with this Christian holy space in Italy.
The design “alphabet” of Mazandaran kilims was originally created by the talented women of Mazandaran, Iran, in the late 19th to early 20th century. The minimalist patterns and stripes in these kilims, resembling a design alphabet, offer endless possibilities for rearrangement, inspiring the creation of new and innovative designs.
